On Aug. 15, Catholics around the world mark the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, commemorating the end of her earthly life and assumption into heaven. This significant feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God.
More than a Century old tradition that started in August 1903, when a small group of immigrants from villages near Naples, Italy, decided to celebrate August 15th as a feast day, just as they had back home. Although the Feast of the Assumption was officially recognized as a "holy day" in the Roman Catholic calendar only in 1950, it had been a long-standing tradition among peasants in southern Italy for centuries. Within a year of that initial celebration, the Fraternal Society (Fratellenza) formed a Feast Committee to ensure the continuation of this observance.
Each year, the parishioners of All Saints on the Hudson in Mechanicville, NY warmly invite you to join them in honoring the Feast of the Assumption and the Blessed Mother. The festivities include religious services, live entertainment, and, of course, a plentiful array of delicious Italian cuisine.
